Candeo’s 2018 Wheelchair Basketball Competition was a HUGE success!

This year we hosted 4 teams for our first ever Wheelchair Basketball Competition tournament. Our first game highlighted the athletic abilities of the Grandview University and Drake University football teams. Drake come out on top for the 5th time in Wheelchair Basketball history!

Our second game highlighted our first responders from the Des Moines Fire and Des Moines Police Department. After 4 quarters, the Des Moines Fire came out on top and moved on to the championship game.

After 3 high intense games, Drake succeeded in becoming our grand Champion! Way to go Drake!

Thank you to all of the players for donating your time and strength, the MC – Rick Herman – for making us laugh, the game caller – Shawn Pitts – for knowing the rules, the refs – Nikki Brock, Kirby Putzier, and Ron Sampson – for keeping everyone in line, and the scoreboard keeper – Justin Putzier – for keeping up with the action. Also, a big shout out to all of the incredibly talented singers and half-time performers, the client speakers for sharing their stories, the volunteers who made the day go off without a hitch, and (most importantly) all who attended and supported this great event! We could not have done it without each and every one of you!

  Thank You!
